In the tiny town of Waterdrop, two students—Hannah Hydrogen and Oliver Oxygen—hold hands in a water molecule. Nearby lives Hydro the Hydrochloric Acid, who has a “spare” hydrogen he’s ready to give away, and Bina the Base, a hydroxide ion that really wants a hydrogen. This story follows one simple trade: a proton moves, charges change, and a new bond forms.
